Hi, just been reading about mites. I use Aspen bedding, should I be baking it in the oven 1st. Cos I haven't been :(

I don't do anything with my substrate either, the only thing I bake are things I find outside.

I've never heard of anyone baking aspen. I use it and don't bake it.

ive heard of it being done, if there were a fear of mites

but any reptutable supplier there wouldnt be a problem

Awwwww thanks everyone you've put my mind at rest. I read this on the "Mites" sticky post on page one and started to worry.

Quote "best option is to bake substrate at 100*C+ for half an hour or so. freezing definitely isn't a good option - think how many bugs survive though our freezing cold winters"

the only substrate i'd bake is orchid bark - to dry it out and kill any nasties

cornsnakes, ratsnakes, bullsnakes, boas and day geckos

If i'm feeling paranoid i stick it in the microwave. Takes ages though cos you have to do it in batches.
