Our first snake was Sid and adult of nearly 5ft. My son, then aged 12, saved his money and got Sid complete with set up. None of us had held a snake before so were complete novices but I have to say that for us it was most certainly the right decision to take on an adult corn. I myself bought 2 hatchlings back in september and I think I would have been very nervous of dropping or loosing them if they had been our first snakes. Cammy, Just wondering if your parents have an opinion on you getting the snakes? |

At the end of the day it can't help to go and look. As for the egg thing, I think he simply means that they are a breeding pair. Now anyone feel free to correct me on this, but wouldn't be it a much wiser decision to keep a breeding pair together rather than separate? Never done it myself, but I am almost certain I heard somewhere that they can go off their foods and things if they have lived together a long time then suddenly get separated... I am possibly wrong, but almost sure it was about corn snakes. If only it was closer to me, if you didn't decide to buy them I think I definitely would. A breeding pair and full set up for £40... Things like that just don't happen lol. |

thanks for the advice. my parents arent bothered about snakes in a negative way. they're more interested in it being well looked after and happy. we are going to look at lunch time today. will try and handle them and see if they are friendly enough. |

there genreally better for younger as they have less chance of escape and are more placid but getting a hatchie is great when keeps all the sheds and watch it grow |

just got back with 2 adults corns. both 3 yrs old and in great health.
one odd thing is he has been looking after the snakes but not using the heat mats. when we got there it was 22deg c across the entire viv. the male is pretty lively but the female is big and at least twice the weight of the male and slow moving. am i right in thinking the female will be better off when the heatrs warm it up a bit. |

Good news. I'm sure your so pleased. Don't forget they need 7 days to just be left alone, not fed etc while they settle in. Just daily water changes and clean up any poop they may leave you. The wait will kill you but they need it to get used to their new surrounding and new smells etc. |

Wow both of those are deep in blue. So shouldn't be too long until you get your first skins off your first snakes. Well done and an absolutely bloody bargain! |

And I don't mean to sound like a typical ***** but you have done your research on like settling in periods and things haven't you?

yes i realise they need to settle in for a week. one thing that im concerned about is they were last fed 10days ago. the larger one ate 3large mice and the smaller one had 3 medium mice. does this sound about right and will they be ok to be left a few more days |

That would depend on how often they are fed. It does sound like a lot but if they only get that once a month then its about right.
Another small (and it is only small) thing is I wouldn't hold the snake so close to the head, your effectively holding it by the neck there and they don't like it all that much, When you watch them moving around you'll see by there movements what bit is their 'neck'. I would only hold my snake by the body.
And while they settle in its fine to not feed them, they won't mind one bit. |

That great than cammy ^^
Some snakes don't need settling in period of 7 days, people that believe that all snakes should so should talk to my king about it, and my oldest corn.
Sounds like they are being a bit overfed to me to be honest, you know how often they were fed like this? I'd try the larger one on 1 large mouse every week/jumbo and it may become a case of being able to drop the feeding to every 2 weeks and the smaller one I'd feed 1 large too.
Edit: In support my snakes sometimes by holding the "neck", most of mine are fine with it, you'll eventually find out what they prefer, if they ain't bothered by it I don't see why not to hold it there. |

i was told they had their food every 14days. they gave me about 12 medium mice to feed them with. they all defrosted so will bin them once the snakes have had one each. they are really really friendly with no handling issues at all. i'm slowly reheating the viv as the snakes feel Very cold to me.
