i've found a nice 4ft viv with all the set up and also comes with 3ft and 4ft snake.
as a beginner i dont fancy looking after 2 large snakes but id like to get the set up and rehome the larger snake or resell for a small amount to give my dad some money back.
how easy is it to rehome a 4ft snake |

Rehoming any snake can be hard, although a lot depends on morphs and hets but I would still be that you would have a hard time. |

To be honest older snakes often more settled, i adopted my two girls when they were 9-10 yrs old and approximately 5ft each. |

yeah i adopted two 4 year olds (aprox) at the same time. they do cohabit and they are great, very settled, very docile snakes. i would offer to take one off you hands but im not taking any in as mine are all qurantined at the mo. good luck tho! If i was you, id keep both and see how you get on, you might be surprised how little work they can be. you can always try to rehome later if you decide you cant handle two. :) |

I hope Cammy doesn't mind me mentioning this but according to his profie he is 13 years old and is new to snake keeping. He is doing the right thing by comming and asking questions on the forum but I just wondered if you would still recommend that he keep 2 large corns in one viv?
I don't know if there is a right or wrong answer I'm just wondering whether you think he would be better getting a hatchling to start with?
My daughter is 12 and I don't think I would give her 2 fully grown corns as her first snake.

Adult snakes in my opinion are better for younger people as they are not generally as fast, and a bit more hardy.
As for the cohab issue that is a topic for another thread of which there are loads so lets not turn this one into another one.
But if you do get the two and try to rehome one it may not as quick as you may think so would suggest not getting the two of them if you only want the one. |

Sorry, wasn't actually meaning about the cohabit part being a problem, I just wrote it the wrong way :)
Interesting points though. I have never had the chance to see or hold a fully grown corn so didn't know if it was a problem or not (which was why I asked). Never had a tiny hatchling either, mine have all come to me aged 7 months and older. |

the advertiser says they belong to his son who is a university. they are used to being handled daily and are feeding well. he said they havent been seperated before as they were brought up together. one is a 3ft males and the other is a 4ft female. |

Well thats yet another can of worms, 2 snakes of breeding age of opposite sex, your very likely to end up with more than just 2 snakes if they are kept together. |

im waivering towards getting the whole setup and see how they mix with each other. i can always rehome one asfter a few weeks if 2 is too much work for me but the owner says they a fine together and when the female lays he removes the eggs to a cold place |

Also what does the full set-up include and how deep is the viv? It sounds like a nice offer but that's only because they probably are having a hard time trying to get rid of the snakes themselves. |

if you are rehoming a female then at this time of year you shouldn't have any problems finding someone to take her on, it seems every man and his dog wants adult females now ('must be over 3 feet' etc etc).
The only problem with this is some people like that seem to treat cheap adults as 'disposable', ie. they'll take them off your hands, breed them, then move them on again :( |

if the owner says they get along well it may be ok to keep them together for now. is it any harder to keep these snakes in their current setup than say keeping a 12inch snake in a 2ft viv. |

I wouldn't part with my 10 yr old girls, they have distinct personalities. Though i have to say they seem to prefer their new piece of wood to me at the mo, all i get is a tail sticking out each end LOL. And i'm sure Gerry just said when i nipped to see how they were doing ' go away yr not invited to our party' |

Well from reading all the comments I have to say for a 13 year old lad your taking a very very mature approach. I have to agree with Graeme, a slightly bigger corn is better for a younger person as they aren't as flighty and well scared mostly due to being a youngster themselves. Keeping 2 together I wouldn't really say is any harder than keeping one. Only difference been is you need 2 of everything. You mention when the female lays eggs, does this mean she is already gravid? or the owner is hoping to breed her if she doesn't sell? |

when i phoned him he just sdaid thatshe lays eggs once a yr and he removes them. it seems his son bought them and now cant look after them, but he did say that he's been looking after them and handling them since his son left.
i think i may go and have a look as its only 30miles away and i'll get my dad to take me. ive been buying bits and peices for a few weeks and most of that stuff will be replicated if i get this new full setup. i'm sure their will be some value for it on ebay and i got my dad to give me the £40 the man wants so will pay my dad back if the other stuff sells. |
