Hey,

Tessera is pretty new and it is the first dominant gene in corn snakes.
Meaning that both the hetrozygous and homozygous forms looks the same (at the moment there have been no proven differences that I know of).
If you breed a het Tessera (visual Tessera) to a normal you will get 50% normal and 50% Tessera.

Here is our 2010 male:

Oh i didnt know that with the het and homo and how the dominant gene works! Be hard knowing which is het or homo then without breeding! Saying that i have not looked that much into tessera`s as no plans to breed them yet! Very good thing to know tho when i do buy one in the future!

They certainly are something special, does anyone know what kind of money you would pay for one of those? Id imagine it to be quite a lot, seeing as they are fairly new, but at the same time, being a dominant gene, they will be produced rather quickly, so Im not too sure? :P

They are relatively new Stotty and are a single trait not a morph combo.

It will be a genetic mutation to the normal pattern genes that will result in this pattern I should reckon. Then, being the humans we are, we breed more of it, because we like it, manipulate it, and make it prettier X3 Basic example of selective breeding opposed to natural selection. Or so I should imagine - may be different. However, being as it is a dominant gene, that would suggest that it is a mutation of the normally patterned carolina, rather then playing with the colourations that may result from rare examples that crop up, like melanistic and albino traits that can sometimes be naturally occurring.

Suuure is lovely though! I'd happily trade in my first child to get ahold of one of those XDDD

simply: someone hatched out an odd looking corn and the odd look proved to be genetically inheritable

If someone breeds 2 litters of rats and there are 2 hairless rats born these would be kept and bred from in the hope of producing more hairless rats. So in the case of snakes, an unusual colour that happens to appear in a hatchling would be kept and used for breeding in the hope of producing more unusual colouring?
