| Our juvenile snow recently shed on the 8/11/10 and while removing the shedding I noticed that some was still stuck to the top of its head. As I had just fed them I left it for a couple of days to digest, thinking that it would come off normally. When cleaning it out on the 10/11/10 I noticed that it was still attached by one larger scale on the top of its head and that the scale in front of it seems to have come off the shedding. We feed our babies every 3 days atm, and so last night (11/11/10)I looked at it again, the shedding has broken off leaving one scale missing on the head and part of where it is attached to the other large scale in the center of its head. It is also appears to be inflamed behind the eyes where the joint of the jaw is. It is acting and feeding normally, we have found a herp vet and my partner is making an appointment, and in the meantime we are keeping its box v. clean and keeping an eye on it. Has anybody else seen this before?/Know whats up? |

| While Cleaning out Number 2, our Anery, today I noticed that it to is also inflamed behind the eyes where the joint of the jaw is :(. My partner thinks it is just irritation, as their boxes are a little bit small for them now (they get moved up in size next week), we will keep them all clean and take all of our snakes to the vets to register and for a check up. |

if it looks sore you could try putting some Tamodine/Vetadine on it but it depends how soon your vet appointment is........applying anything might make it difficult for the vet to see what's going on
it's not unheard of for them to occasionally rub off a scale with some vigorous shedding activity though it's not 'the norm' |

have decided no to put anything on it as seeing vet soon, they are still both inflamed and have slight swelling behind the eyes, we just moved the adults into their new viv tonight and move the babies up in size tomorrow :) (partner had the bright idea of getting 3 sizable lock & lock boxes, drilling airholes and putting them side by side in the old viv on the heatmat, (half on half off,with thermostat), they fit perfect,and they are much bigger then the current Chinese takeaway tubs they are in!) so hopefully its just irritation and they will be happier in their new space, but will still see vet just to make sure.
We are going to put the babies on vermiculite, as we have loads, do you know of any reason why we shouldent? our adults are on chippsi extra and have been for years with no probs. :) xx |
