Ok im with you, cheers for the clarifiction.
So assuming they only tested boas who had died exhibiting certain symptoms then it may not be a widespread problem. Although if they can harbour the disease for years then a single shipment containing infected boas who are then used for breeding could rapidly cause a pandemic? (again im just speculating) |

in theory yes, if they only tested animals that had specific symptoms then it could be 50% of them have ibd, there are other diseases and conditions that have similar symptoms.
Not all the animals can harbour the disease, for the majority they cannot be asymptomatic, they will have symptoms resulting in death 100% of the time. if an asymptomatic boa is used for breeding then yes, it would infect the partner, if it was male, it would essentially kill the female before she could have babies, if it was female, then potentially the babies could have IBD, some may be asymptomatic. I dont think there would be a pandemic purely because it shows symptoms very early on, and as long as the person is aware of them, and follows very strict quarantine procedures, it shouldnt spread. If course, shouldnt and wont are 2 very different things. |

I'm awful and googled this as it had me quite worried. Beside it showing up the eggs, there have also been cases of cali kings while being house with other snakes apparently having it :( and other kings showing similar symptoms to it (apparently they were housed with boa's and vipers??? I didn't even know that would work out? unless they didn't mean in the same viv but *_*) Very worrying as I always thought it was something that boa's and pythons had and that was it limited.
I also thought that some umbilical corn markings were normal? Kinda like a belly button for snakes?
I hope all goes well for you, I really do :( I don't even know what else to say. I imagine there are many other snake problems that can resemble IBD to a worried person. Does the person who if there snake has IBD and actually got it tested? I'm sorry if it's in the topic somewhere. |

Stapey, its worse than that, anything can technically get it, including you or I. You cannot test specifically for ibd unless the animal is dead, the test that can be done whilst alive is not conclusive to only ibd. |

I have to say, if you have no symptoms then its highly likely that they dont have it, at least not symptomatically anyway, it could still be asymptomatic (carrier only). IBD in royals manifests very quickly. Its not a royal desease, so far its only be proven to come from Boids, hence the full name Boid Inclusion Body Disease. If you want a test done, ask a vet to take some blood and send it to Kate at the lab, it prob wont be a cheap test, but at least you will know if its likely to have it or not. The blood test is not conculsive, but it will certainly give you an idea. I think if after 2 weeks the snake is showing no symptoms, then you are ok, if one had it, they would all have it, and atleast one would be symptomatic by now, i would also suspect it would be either very advanced, or even dead by now. |

Royals dont go toilet anywhere near as much as corns, mine usually go 4 or 5 weeks before leaving me cleaning duties, 4 days is nothing to worry about |

Agreed, once the cycle gets going its more regular, but the first few feeds can keep you waiting quite a while. dont worry yet. as for the rest, no signs are good signs, i really think if you had ibd in your collection you would know about it already. |

spiders do suffer from some quite severe wobbles, but its nothing to worry about, sadly its normal for them. Quarantining them is not a bad idea anyway, just make sure your hygeine is spotless in between touching anyway to do with different snakes, otherwise the quarantine is pointless. |
