When I bought Izzy with his set up, there was a light controller included - You know the ones for tube lights. The previous owners said that for some reason it wasn't working although why they had it fitted I don't know. A few months back I bought a big box load of rep stuff off preloved and in with it was another light controller.
Now I don't need these and I can't see me needing them in the future so I wanted to test them before selling them on but I'm a bit confused about what light I need to test them with and if I can use the same light with both?
The info on each controller is 1)Arcadia model AC30 Type C4 220-240V Tube 25/30W 26mm. 2)Eiko Electronic products 1 lamp 30watt Model A1566 230Vac 50hz.
I know I'm probably being a bit dense but I'v never used one of these so help would be appreciated from anyone who has.

dazb (the electrical engineer) says..........you need to buy the specified tube to test them, if it's got an external starter that might have gone.........or he'll give you a tenner for them both and if they don't work they don't work lol

They have both got one of those white starter button/switch things. Electrical things are definitely not my forte - can't you tell lol. I have just tested a heat rock that i got with the Eiko one and it doesn't seem to work so there are definitely no guarantees on the controllers working. If Daz wants them GP he is welcome to them.

Surely to test them it doesn't matter what type of tube goes in there, so long as it works to test???

I've stuck many a random tubes into many a random starters just to test them, I always assumed that if the tube lit up, then the starter worked.
I know about specific bulbs for specific starters on the long term, but wouldn't any tube do to test?? (dazB???)

MrB says..........
if the tube you're testing with is too low wattage it might not light up, giving a false negative
and if the tube is too high wattage it might bu***r the thing you're testing lol
