hi all i got the temperature between 27-29c last night but can you tell me if its the mat that needs to be 27-29 or just the hole tank temperature. also when i get him out of his box and put the sub-trait down over the mat will it get to hot were it will catch fire as i know that wood chippings can catch fire very easy. i know that might sound stupid but this is my first tank and snake so im just not sure :)

the temps should be that nearest the heatmat so if your heatmat is below your rub the base of the rub should be at those temps. The substrate shouldn't be very thick over the hot maybe a cm or so.

How are you setting up the box, as the mat normally would be on the underside of the rub and not in it. Also if you are using a stat there shouldn't be any risk of the mat overheating and setting fire to the substrate.
