Thanks for the warm welcome...
I am just slightly concerned about the temperature in the vivarium here are the pics of it
as you can see i have put a thermometer strip on (might be in the wrong place) but according to that the temp is about 20 Celsius. The heat pad i have got is 6.5Watts and is constantly on.
I have no heating im my room and it can get quite cold in here.
Would i be better getting a higher powered heater of am i worrying over nothing..
Thanks |

those strips are useless for monitoring temps in your faun, ideally you would best get a digital thermometer and have that on the substrate. The strip is measuring, if you are lucky, the ambient temp in your faun you need to be monitoring the temps on the substrate.
You also say your mat is on all the time, have you got your mat setup with a thermostat. |

Thanks gmac As for the mat, no there is no thermostat according to the shop i got it from i wouldn't need one during the winter as i could leave it on full.
Im thinking about going back tmr and getting one and maybe a higher power heater as even if it is ok now im not sure how its going to do when it gets colder. |

i use the same mats you have and they heat just fine, the problem is you cant monitor the temps or control them.
you dont need another mat just the stat. |

heya and welcome
sorry to launch into this but the faun and hide look huge for your little hatchie, if the faun's got a divider i'd put it in the smallest section for now, thin out your substrate a lot as it will insulate the heat from your snake, invest in a digital thermometer and place the probe on top of the substrate above the heatmat and invest in a thermostat to control the temperature
and yes you have an amel |

Thanks for that gingerpony.
I have ordered a thermostat and a digital thermometer. there is no divider for the faun. How small does the hide need to be? |

so when your corn is curled up inside it touches all the sides of the hide so it feels secure, plastic coffee jar lids with a little hole cut out are inexpensive and ideal for the job |

oh, and as the faun is quite big try putting several hides in, at least one in the warm end and another in the cool end so your hatchie can thermoregulate and stay hidden thus reducing stress |
