Hi, I've just got my first baby corn!!!
I've had other snakes in the past and not had many problems, this is the first corn I've had though and I've been letting him settle in for a few days now but everytime I move - He's in my room with me - He coils himself up protectively and raises his head. It looks decidedly threatening and basically he looks scared stiff! I can actually see his breathing and heart rate increase drastically and I'm rather worried about him. I've been told by the breeder that he has been handled a few times and is friendly and calm. He's 3months old.
Should I be worrying so much or just give him more time to settle in before trying to handle him?

| give him at least a week to settle in, what kind of set up is he in? and does he have 2 hides he can go in? (1 on hot end 1 on cool end?) |

Aww, bad lad! I think he's more scared of you than you are of him, and he's trying to make out he's a Big Dangerous Snake! As above, give him a week to settle in without handling, make sure he's got plenty of places to hide. I confess I've never had this with a corn, only with my royal - and it was only fear and strangeness and the fact that he went into blue the minute I got him. That's a thought - could your lad be going into blue? That's the only time I've known the corns be grumpy.
If he did bite - it won't hurt - it will tickle! You won't even notice it. But usually they're all bluff, and will actually calm down in your hands. (I've been bitten a couple of times because I stupidly picked mouse up in my fingers to waggle it for them - smack wrists!)

| Thanks! He's in an exo terra viv 30cm cubed. got 2 hides and some greenery to hide in too. - I have a kitten so want him to feel secure from her too! Is it true that I shouldn't feed him for the first week as well? |

| yes hatchie bites only tickle mine nipped me a few times when i had to put her in her new home when i bought her home, its nothing, more funny than anything watching them trying to attack u bless them lol |

| Haha nope he's not blue, just had his second shed before i got him. i'm not worried about being bitten though! I'm just worried about him he seems very nervous considering he's supposedly been handled and used to people and other animals moving around near his viv! Thinking I've been duped basically! :D |

Don't worry, he may have been used to people when he was in his old home, but everything is new to him, so he's going to be defensive. He will get used to you, I've had mine over a year and sometimes I still spook him by accident!
Just give him time :) |

Yup - sometimes mine will be all over me - other times it's 'do I know you??'
Incidentally my lot are fascinated by my cats! sometimes, it's a case of, 'oh, you is it? Want to talk to a cat!' (Through viv window of course!)
