Hi, guys, it's quiet tonight and I was just thinking (dangerous, I know!)

Last night I was sitting listening to Bob Marley and keeping an eye on Saffron, my butter corn, who I KNEW was going to shed any minute - and she did - the minute I took my eyes off her! Just as the track, 'Lively Up Yourself' came on, I caught her as she writhed against a climbing branch, the skin splitting and loosening like a white membrane along her middle part. She's growing into a big lass so she was long enough to double back and climb into her treehouse and look at me, her tongue coming slowly out to its full length and retracting ... is this the equivalent of a human or dog panting?

Presently she lifted her tail clear of the viv foliage and I saw the muscular contractions as she withdrew the tail from the last bit of shed. It came off cleanly, and Saffy rested, still flicking her tongue extravagantly. I lifted her water bowl up to her and she put her head in and drank like a dog.

When she had drunk her fill I retrieved the skin - a beauty, apart from that rip along the middle. Eyecaps perfect, tail perfect, damp and silky, four feet long. (Saffy is just over 3 feet.)

Another one for the collection! I can't bear to throw them away. Not when they're perfect like that. I have a long thin picture frame and keep meaning to do a montage, but haven't got round to it yet.

What do you do with your snakes' shed skins?

If that isn't a sad question?

Mine get draped along the bookshelves and all over the place. Scruffy ones go in the cats' toybox. How come you're not allowed to keep yours, Meg - you'll have to hide them out of sight. They are fascinating things to look at - imagine what a really big snake's would be like - I look forward to my royal shedding when he grows another few feet!

Mine get stuck in scrap books with date and length so I get to see how much they are growing. Carmellia shed tonight. I knew she was due and when I saw her poke her head out of her hide I got all excited. Then she just went and had a drink and disappeared back into her hide. 'Oh well' I thought 'she will probably come back out later when its dark and quiet' I peek at the snakes 10 minutes later and there is a nice full shed tangled around her faun. Typical. At least she saved the poop until she was clear of the shed. Just waiting for Alice to shed as well now as he went clear a couple of days ago. Tonight may be the night.

I keep all of mine!
I'm sad like that.

I also keep some leopard gecko skin when the decide not to eat it and it looks good - one of them shed her head perfectly; patterns and all!
They seem to disintergrate pretty quick though so i laminated them

I dont know what to do with my box full of snake socks though. Theres about 20 of them!
Maybe i'll laminate those too

I was always told a few germs don't hurt. They help to build a good immune system lol. At least that's my excuse

I keep mine for a short while, then end up giving them to friends kids.
They either bring them into their school to show off, or shred them in their lounge. Either way it gives them some fun and I don't have to clear up.

I'm sat waiting. He stuck his head out of his hide about half an hour ago but has just gone back inside. Looks like he is going to keep me guessing. No doubt he will wait until I finally fall asleep to sneak out and do it

I have loads and loads of sheds knocking about, anything from 6 inch baby corns to 8.5ft boa skins! Most of the little ones get binned, but I have a few big ones.

8.f ft boa skin! Wow, you couldn't leave that lying about on the bookcase, that's for sure!

And if a cat found it it would be like the time I bought a sari and Emily the cat helped me try it on ... to cut a long story short, we BOTH ended up wearing the sari!

I suppose you could hang a few skins together on the wall like some kind of avant-garde sculpture ... eat your heart out Damien Hirst!
