Does it annoy anyone else when you're reading say, a news story, or something else factual and it starts going on about poisonous snakes? News sites are the worst, they're meant to be giving people facts but instead they're using incorrect terminology! I find myself raging at them in my own head. I will not stand for this! |

I hate it too but I have a nasty suspicion the media doesn't give a damn as long as they can build a sensational story out of it ... |

Depends on how the toxin is administered. It is possible to be poisoned by a venomous snake. |

snake venom isnt usually harmful at all if ingested, the enzymes in the saliva break it down :) |

Tell that to a journalist.
I just have this vision of a room full of media types (badly in need of a change of underwear) cringing away from a rub containing a corn hatchling, while our Josh gives them a much-needed lecture on the different kinds of snake...
I'm not sadistic either, but nice one! |

Then bring in the super deadly fifty foot poisonous python from Peru! That would have them climbing up walls. |

what annoys me most is not using the wrong word at the wrong time, but wheever someone finds a snake they all make a big point about it 'not being poisonous'. Why instead can't they just say 'a harmless [species here] has [escaped/been found] blah de blahhhh'

All snakes are harmless unless given provocation to defend themselves. If I found say an escaped boa in my house, I'd lock it in the room, give it water and contact ameyzoo. It's stupid the way people react to snakes. I'm more scared of dogs than snakes. |

Because that's not sensational enough. It won't get the papers sold or the TVs turned on. Hype hype hype ... |
