Hello, I am Robinfeather. My birthday is in two weeks and I only have two weeks to get to know as much about Corn snakes as possible and fast! I have read the the whole page (Not the forum, the page when you click the button to see what the page is.)
I have read it ALL but I need to get the best tips on how to care for it from you guys! I have some questions here for you to answer if you can:

When should I get the cage?

What should I get? A hatchling? A adult?

If I get a hatchling/adult what sort of cage should I get? Here is a good list of cages that I think would be good. http://www.petworlduk.com/default/off/category/Reptile/Reptile_Housing

From the link which one do you think and why?

I want to get a young adult so what cage should I get?

What happens is I get a very expensive cage and my snake out grows it? Should I get a big cage?

In my bed room (it's very small) If I get a snake I only have one big shelf with 3 places to keep it.

Fisrt shelf: Low down with a troptical fish tank that I can move over with room for another tank (i think and don't worry the fish tank lid can't open unless a snake can flip a cage that it you need to hold on top. (I'll post a pic of it to make sure)\

Second Shelf: A meduim high shelf with my tv on top that might have room for a tank.

Top shelf: No where to put plugs, high up.

Please help me!

I want some tips too!

I've found a good cage.
Take a look and tell me what you think!http://www.petworlduk.com/more/on/details/07060

I am looking up euipment so soon I shall post it so that you can say what you think. I have decided to get a corn snake (I'm talking about age here) from what they seal. Say a shop was seeling baby coen snakes I would get one that I like and in good health and keep it in a plastic box with some holes in it (RUb),

The "cage" in which you keep your corn snake really depends on the size/age of corn snake you are looking to get. I read in your profile that your mum said that you couldn't have one.

It may be a good idea to get atleast one of your parents to research about corn snakes aswell. That way they know exactly what you and they are getting into. Afterall since you are still young it will somewhat be their responsibility aswell.

Like i said before the size tank you need will depend on wether you get a hatchling or an adult, but if you are buying a hatchling which i will assume for now that you are considering the size of the terrarium you linked to, you may be better getting a faunarium or a RUB, these will do untill your snake is big enough to go into a vivarium.

That heat mat would be fine but you would need a suitable size to correspond with the tank you were purchasing.

No, you don't need feeding tongs, but they can come in handy.

A scooper shovel isn't really needed either.

The vines are good i have them in my fauns, they arn't needed so wether you get one is down to prefference.

A light also isn't needed and you will only be able to insert a light if you have a vivarium, also if you were to get a light you could pick a normal fixture up for much cheaper than that.

the water dish, hides, bedding, and disinfectant are fine, although the dissinfectant also isn't necesarilly needed.

There are however a few things which you do need and haven't listed.
You will need to purchase a thermostat to control the heat mat and atleast one digital thermometer to monitor the temperatures.

If you were to get a light then you would also need a guard so that the snake can not directly touch it.

Thank you very much. So would I have to buy a box or use the one the hatchling comes with?

You can get plastic tanks called Faunariums (made by exo terra) which are perfect for hatchling corn snakes, and they can normly live in one until they are around 12 - 18 months old (depending on how fast they grow). Alternatively you can house them in RUBs (Really useful boxes) or something similar. These come in various different sizes and are perfect as a nice cheap alternative to wooden vivariums.

A Thermostat, have a look at this sticky (borrowed from www.theroyalpython.co.uk) http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=213 it tells you about the different types of thermostats which are available.

This link will give you a rough idea of prices http://www.888reptiles.co.uk/productsubcategories.php?SubCategoryID=205

The 2nd thing is a digital thermomter used to monitor the temperature. You can pick one up for a couple of quid on ebay or for around £10 from a good rep shop.

Edit: I would advise against getting that starter kit, looking at it, it isn't a very good one. It includes things which you do not need and crucially dosn't include things which you do.

There may be a rep shop near you that sells starter kits, I recall reading about a shop which Gmac (another member also from Glasgow) goes to and is apparently very good. I will see if i can find the thread and get the name of the shop, they may have a website.

If not im sure Gmac or another member in the same area will be along at some point.

Do you know what the reptile shop is called? I was on Yell.com with every pet shop is Glasgow (Hardly any good ones) and one came up. It is clled something like NeoGeko. However I clicked the link and it said that i am not permitted to enter. The website with the Starter kit I saw was selling Pinkie (25 of them) for nine pound that come frozen that comes with an ice pack and i saw Ghost Corn snakes and many more for good prices. I just need to find a good tank and equipemt.

for everything you need to know about cornsnakes, you need to get the cornsnake manual by kathy love:

every corn owner should have a copy, and I'll bet most people here have it :)
