How do I know if the eggs are fertile and will actually hatch? The ones I have are growing and have doubled in size since they were laid, does this mean they are definitely fertile? They're a dirty white colour... but it seems to me that normal healthy eggs are brilliant white in colour? Hmm... Ta, Taz xx |

if they haven't gone yellow and shrivveled it's a good sign. There are eggs that can just be goop, but look white and fine, but personally I would assume they're all good and incubate them. |

yeah, there were originally 9 eggs, but 3 went yellow and caved in... so I'm guessing that these ones are healthy.. Just out of curiosity, when does mating season generally end? Thanks |

well technically it's over, but males are randy and will keep trying if given half a chance!
Generally it when they would normally come out of brumation, so end of winter into spring I'm guessing! |

The eggs sound fine to me, especially as they are growing! Just keep doing what you are doing, and all will be fine. What are the parents? |

hmmm... I'm not sure of they're specific 'breed' exactly, but I have an idea... Kaz, the female, is brown/ beige.. I think she's a normal corn, and Rudi is a snow.. They're both about 3 and a half years old... The eggs are due to hatch very soon.. It's killing me waiting, I want to know if they're okay! :) p.s. my eggies have tiny little white specks on, and when I look at pics of others they don't have them... Do you know what this means and if it's healthy? :s Taz |

The white specs I believe are calcium, nice strong eggs. If the parents are normal and snow then barring any hets, all the babies will be normal het snow, although beige I would put as a hypo. You never know, I put an anery motley het amel to an amel expecting amels and I got anery motleys, snow motleys, amel motleys, normal motleys, snows, amels the works! Fingers crossed!

awwww :) they're gorgeous, when did they hatch? yeah, the speckles look like that, except the egg itself isn't as white... why does the whiteness vary? hmmm.. one of the eggs also has a grey spot on, looks like a shadow but isn't.. and one has small yellow marks, but the others appear fine.. Will have to wait and see. |

that's reassuring! Do you know why it is that the whiteness varies between different eggs? Does it reflect the healthiness of the mother? Just wondering... Hmm, so there is a hope then! :) When will I know that they're about to hatch? Any signs prior to? |

I noticed that I saw like darkened shadows in my eggs when they were near hatching apprently that was them absorbing all the eggyness so the shell started to be transparent but I guess if you see the snakes depends on the snakes in them. |

They have been in the incubator for about 9 weeks now... they went in on 9th may I THINK. So I think they're on day 61. They're at 27 degrees, give or take half a degree or so. So it's a bit early isn't it? |

I saw mine with dark patches for like 1/2/3 weeks I think I can't remember to be honest. I remember thinking about throwing them away when I saw dark insides and then gave it a week not really giving them any hope... and I was glad I did! As for time, I've heard 50-55 days and 60-90 days so I have no idea I think it's all down to temperature. I read like 50 days so when it got to that tie I got worried that they weren't hatching specially when I saw the shadowing which I thought was bad. I think mine hatched about 60-70 days.
All I can say is keep the humidity up, and don't throw them away.
I expect pictures of them when they have hatched. |
