My corn is about 4-5months old now and is still nervous of being handled, is this normal? She will flinch or shy away from me if i go near the tank and spends alot of time peeking out from her hides :( |

my corn snake was exactly the same when i got him at 6 months old, its normal behaviour i believe coz they are tiny and feel vulnerable to predation, but when it gets bigger over time the confidence will increase |

Thanks for the reply im hoping she does become more confident, when i have handled her she is quite scatty and tries to get away, so i havent kept her out for more than 5-10mins, im guessing persistence is the key and she'll gradually get used to it? |

She will gradually get used to it, yes. They don't get 'tame' like some people think, they are just much more tolerant of being handled which is why they make great snakes. |

You're right on the ball. The main thing is to keep at it, your time and effort will pay off in the end. 5-10 minute sessions is just about right. I don't think I've known anybody with a young snake that hasn't been skittish. They settle down as they get older. Lucky snake to have an owner who cares and is happy to put in the effort! |

What you have been told is right Emaa....it just takes time and patience....and you being confident when you handle her (if you dont feel it then you need to fake it). She will pick up any nervous vibes from you and it will affect her behaviour.
What are the temps in her tank? Is she feeding, drinking and pooing normally. Just so you can be sure that there are no other reasons as to why she may be skittish.
This thread may be helpful (I know it is called 'Overweight' but is also deals with a corn who doesnt like being handled) - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10202
And Herriotfan is right, your snake is very lucky to have an owner who cares about it so much as to try and ask for help and who is happy to put the time and effort in to make her snake as happy as possible.
A name will come....when it does ....there is no rush.
