Got our snake about 2 1/2 months ago and almost immediately it looked a bit ragged, bits of skin hanging, not a shed. Over the last month its skin has looked "baggy" and today I noticed how thin it was round the neck. It was always eaten well, moved round the tank, seemed to be very happy really. My son is beside himself that it starved to death, as it was looking thin, but we were feeding it weekly and it wasnt a big snake to start with, so feel that was okay. I changed the water nearly daily, and it was always spot cleaned daily. Any ideas? Dont want to make the same mistake if it was something I did.

He was about a year old. Fed him on pinkies, never a problem with him eating.

I told my son to think of it that not all animals live to adulthood and he gave it a really nice life. And now he'll be able to give another one a good life too! Shame though, he had it for his birthday in april.

Sorry to hear for your loss...I would have thought at a year old that it would be on something bigger than pinkies.

Nothing you would have done would have killed it by the sound of it. If you got it from a petshop maybe you should have a word with them.

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

I am so sorry to hear about your snake Lydia, and can also imagine how distraught your son must be. Unfortunately it is all very well looking back with hindsight and saying I should have done this or that....but it wont change what happened. I must admit that I do wonder whether he should have been on something more than pinkies....how often were you feeding him? The problem is that so often we dont know the right information until it is too late, so you must not blame yourself for what happened....and you must not let it put you off getting your son another corn. What you said to your son was perfect....that maybe nature didnt mean for this corn to live any longer and now he can give a good home to a new corn.

It would definitely be worthwhile going back to the shop and speaking to them....you only got him 2 months ago and he has now died....I can understand your need for answers and the responsibility could well be with them if there was something wrong with him internally, like parasites etc. Unfortunately, as Lee said, you wont be able to find out the truth without a post-mortem....so will just have to accept what has happened and not let it affect your love of corns or your desire to own one (easy to type and very hard to do, I know).

Once again, I am so sorry for you and your son.

xxx

Aw no, sorry to hear that. I hope it doesn't stop you getting another one.

When you do, there are loads of guides on here fror the size/weight of a mouse that should be fed to your snake iin it's different stages. It may help, as I know when you're a new snake owner it can seem a little nerve racking going up mouse sizes, as you're never sure if they will be able to get their mouths round them!

Good luck!
