I use brown crickets. I got a black in it and the small black cricket seems bigger than the brown. Also brown are silent and blacks aren't i got told. I use both. depending on which are in stock at the time off buying them. As long as they are small/medium

Black are silent the brown are noisy little bleeders - and the browns are quicker and jump more like saddle ninja said (harder to catch for the toads) and yes black ones are a little bigger
I prefer the black than the browns - and so do the toads,

They will cherp the LOUDEST out of all the crickets available & although silent when smaller, they will deprive you of any sleep especially of any escape ! I had a single male escape ages ago in my room & for weeks it was cherping every night all night LOUD !!! I released my tokay gecko & the cricket was gone within days. I could sleep from then on & never bought BLACK crickets again.
Banded are silent & good too but very quick & jumpy, brown are the standard cricket but do cherp.
plus if left in the cage over night (which shouldnt really be done) BLACK crickets tend to have a stronger bite or are more likely to bite the reptile occupant(s).
