I agree.
I can't stand it when people want venomous snakes just for the thrill of it.
Id never want to keep any venomous snakes (seen far too many horrible bite photos)

But thats cool that they have a Cobra in a shop near you, they don't even have 1 venomous snake in our ZOO down here haha

Persoanlly I don't agree with it and am suprised it is legal. What if they escape, as snakes seem to have a tendancy to do?

I also have some issues with anyone just being able to walk in to a pet shop and buy a reticulated python & other BIG snakes. Should there be a licence scheme for such snakes? I know that experienced snake keepers can handle these types of snake well and give them good homes, but I suspect many can not once they grow too large. It's a novelty when they are 6 foot but when they are 18 foot plus and have eaten the cat, and suffocated the kids, then its not so cool!
Not sure if such things happen or if my imagination is running wild there!!

i know what you mean mancunian, in my area i have seen a green anaconda, an african rock python, a reticulated python and a pair of australian scrub pythons for sale, the most expensive was the rock and that was only £175. these are four of the largest snakes out there, and most are quite aggressive

Well lets hope they don't get released into the sewers! Apparently there are many pythons loose in the Florida Everglades now, after ex-keepers have released them there when they became too large to handle. Now they are as much a hazaed as the alligators!

Plus large monitors and Iguanas.
I hate how some pet shops will just sell these sort of animals to anyone.

I know what you mean about monitors. We nearly ended up with one after a pet shop owner played down the amount of care they need.

God job common sense prevailed and we agreed not to get an animal we hadn't researched beforehand. Otherwise we'd have no house left from destructive damage and be bankrupt by the amount of insects we'd have to buy

I don't agree with venomous snakes either. What's the point of owning a pet that you need to be afraid to handle? I love cobras, I think they are amazing snakes, but I would never get one. Always best to admire from afar

A reptile shop near me has 3 rattle snakes for sale, i dont know how we can get away with this! There are warnings and a direct phone number to the hospital on the Vivs but who in there right mind would buy one??

My friend has a monitor and wouldnt recommend them to anyone because of the care they need but he appreciates him because he can look after him
