George shed today (it was amzing to watch actually!) and I noticed as he wriggled out of the last bit of it a TINY bit remained on the tip of his tail. i'm hoping it won't cause any problems - i've checked the rest of him and he's fine. i assume it'll probably wear off by itself. Charlie xxx |

or let him have a swim in the bath for 10 mins or so (about 2" deep, luke warm water) then let him work throuh a towel to dry himself, that should get any bits of shed off |

Best to remove it, I heard their tail tips can loose the blood supply, turn black and fall off or else. |

im a bit reluctant to put him in the bath as he's only a baby (14 wks). he doesn't like his tail being touched - he tends to get a bit jumpy. i don't know what to do as it hasn't come off yet, although it's just a miniscule amount. should i ask a vet or my specialist what to do or does anyone else have any ideas? i love George to bits and dont want him to get unwell or anything! |

You really need to get it off, they can lose the tip of their tail if the blood stops going to it.
If you don't feel comfortable doing it, then maybe go to your local rep shop. If it's a good one, they will probably help.
Bath's won't hurt him at all. If a bath is too big, try a rub or old bowl to soak him in.
Most snakes don't like their tails being touched, but needs must. They are hardy things so you won't hurt him if you're careful.
Where do you live? If you live near me (Barnsley, South Yorkshire) I won't mind doing it for you. |

GP's advice above is good, they need plenty of moisture to loosen the skin and then a towel should get rid of it. As its been this long now it is unlikely to come off by itself. |

You can even bath them in the sink if you think the bath's a bit big, just make sure you block up the overflow . Peanuts used to retain the last inch of his tail so we always had to give him a soak and help him rub it off, he fidgited about a bit but suffered no adverse effects. Good luck and don't worry as Kazerella says they are very hardy so your very unlikely to harm him. Let us know how it goes. |

I'll give it a try tomorrow, as he's not long eaten. I live in Taunton, Somerset though, right down in the Westcountry. Anyone's welcome to visit if they're taking a summer break down here though! |

errm, should I tell??? ok, 27, but there's a good reason why i'm dreading the big 3-zero! Anyway, I managed to get that little bit of skin off George's tail - it certainly looks like it anyway, but I've got him his own little 'bathing bowl' for the next time he sheds. Thanks for everyones advice - you're all stars! |
