Wow, nice photos and what great taranualas. Love the golden knee. I have always wanted one but they are banned from this house! I even have to intervene to save house spiders and daddy longlegs from the insect pepellant! Not so sure about scorpions though. Have they ever stung you? |

What are they like as pets?
Can you handle them pretty often?
I've never had a spider, probably because I would be worried about being bit. Do they give a warning before they strike like a snake s bends?
I got bit by a suspected white tail in Australia and my foot swelled up like I had elephantitius. It was so painful. Good job I was quite drunk at the time, otherwise it might have smarted a bit more |

Sorry for the late reply. They make great pets in my opinion, Fascinating to watch. I used to handle the red knee a lot but after she moulted she got very deffensive, i don't handle any of them anymore.
Some will hiss, most will rear up showing their fangs. A lot of species have urticating hairs which they can flick, these are irritating if they come into contact with skin.
WOW!!!! You've been to Australia :o (SOOOO JELOUS!!!!) |

I worked there for a while, lived in Brisbane, but stayed a while in Melbourne and Sydney too. Prefer New Zealand to be honest. It's a beautiful country and the people are nicer
Good thing about Oz though is you see some wildlife. I used to get up every morning to a Golden Orb spider web outside my doorway. The first day I was there I nearly stood on a foot long lizard and I once saw a massive Iguana just basking on a bench near the river. It was brilliant! |
