hey My corn is a little over 3ft, i'v come across a well priced second hand viv I want to upgrade to but it's arboreal (36" 18" 18") Are arboreal vivs ok for Corns?...my corn loves to climb...I know generally arboreal vivs are used for gecko's & tree frogs etc....but a corn is semi-arboreal right? Also would this viv be ok once he's an adult & 2 or 3 feet longer?
Thanks! |

if the floor space is 18"x18" it would be suitable for a corn up to 3' long, there's nothing wrong with using an arboreal setup it just most of the height might be wasted on a corn! |

That's what I was thinking, it must be 18x18 floor, as his corn is already over 3' it might be a bit small. |

you may be able to put a nice branch or two in there though with some hanging plants a nice hanging heat bulb with reflector & mesh guard (fitted to reflector). could have a nice basking spot up high using a red night light bulb.
Then a heat mat at the bottom for the day time.
Ratsnakes (corn snake cousin) are more arboreal but the snake would most likely use the space at night if provided. |

^^thats what I thought, I could even build a in a shelf half way up so theres more space for him to climb to.
Not sure though, I don't wanna buy it if it's not going to last. Just seems like a bargain to me @ £40.
thanks for everyones input ;) |

you could always get it, turn it on it's side, buy some more runners and different sized glass so it still has horizontally sliding doors??? |

Now that's a much better idea, the glass and runners would probably cost you about £15. |

Gingerpony, blackecho - good idea but would that still be a good deal to you?....do you think i'd get anything better for £55? Also it's finding the space for a viv 3ft long might be an issue.

You could pick up a brand new 36" viv for ~£60 if you look hard enough, so probably not. |

I like the idea, something different that I dont think too many people really do. It's usually always long rectangle tanks. With a tall tank you could decorate it differently as you can get taller plants, branches & vines i there.
Most people would put a chameleon in it but I think people might be surprised to find a corn snake living in it.

or one of the tree boas would probably use it to it's advantage, though from what I've read they tend to be ornamental rather than handleable hands-on snakes as they get stressed easily. |
