their size & growth is dependent on the amount of food available to them.

Yes it makes sense. So what if you feed it once a week with mouse as recommended? Do they grow really fast?

Actually opposite, I don't want it to be too big too quickly, they are so lovely when they are small..

Well restricting their growth would also not be a good idea if this is possible..... Reducing their food to say a pinky every 7-10 days for a baby (not hatchling*), & weekly to fortnightly feeding for any other size up to a snake feeding on large to XL mice which could be fed once a month.

*Hatchlings would generally eat a single pinky where as a baby could manage 2 pinkys. Personally I would say a baby is about 4-6 weeks old.

This is about the limit but even though this would maybe be closer to natural conditions it would not be necessary in a captive environment.

If it's to save money then don't get a corn snake.
If you want a small snake get a small snake, hognose, garter, etc.

Would you like to eat one meal a day every day ?

You get me bit wrong.
I do not want starve or torture any animal.
Always used to have lots of animals, love all my animals, but never had snake. So don't know anything about them, only few bits from internet.

Visited friend recently who has little corn, that was first time I handled snake and I liked it. But I'm bit nervous when see pictures of 2 meters long snakes.
So I guess you are right that I should look for small snake.
But as I don't know much about snakes, don't know which would be suitable for beginner and be small at the same time.

I know you wouldn't torture an animal I wasn't implying that it just sounded strange that you wanted to keep a corn snake small.

Corn snakes are one of, if not the best beginners snake to own & enjoy so I wouldn't want to put you off that

I think that with 'normal' feeding regimes & optimal care you should be looking at a snake around 2ft at a year old, but it's hard to say as they're all different.

Thank you for your reply.
My english is sometimes bit wobbly, so I can give wrong impression now and then

Looked on the other snakes you recommended, and it said they are technically venomous, but don't do harm to people. Well with my luck I would be the first one to die after tiny bite from safe snake..
So Corn is still my favourite.
Is milk snake similar to corn?

Yes but like king snakes they're cannabalistic so they have to live alone. Very nice snakes though.

Even rat snakes carry a small venom content but would usually just cause a rash & swelling - if that
