My 11 month old is laying eggs and I have no preparation. I have put a very damp towel in the small viv they used to be in and placed the heatmat under the whole section. What do I do now or what am I doing wrong? I haven't even picked the eggs up yet as I'm a bit scared that I'll break them! My three snakes were curled up in one tiny bed and I noticed eggs popping out of the side. I assumEd she finished but she hasn't and now I think I've frightened her into stop laying. HELP, HELP, HELP - A VERY WORRIED NOVICE!

Leave her alone dont touch her or the eggs as yes you could disturb her.

How many snakes are living together & what are the sexes of each ?

How old are they all ?

are you trying to incubate the eggs in the small viv ?

I have three snakes of 11 months old with one male and two females. A while back I noticed them wriggling tales but it was inside their bed and as I couldn't see very well and they were young I assumed it was nothing. She's about to lay her final egg, 13 in total, and I have this mulshy substrate that I can put in a small tub with tiny holes and place it in their large tank for heat until I can get a proper incubater. But, if I should be doing something else then please give me advice as I have no idea what I am doing. Forgive the ignorance but I thought males reached sexual maturity at 18 months not 11 months!

Oh and when do I feed the female once she has finished?

try feeding her later tonight if you want on a small meal but she may refuse it, then try again tomrrow.

get the temp to stay around 27*C - 30*C max. I assume it's going to fluctuate as its not ideal environment to incubate plus does it have a stat to control the temp ? if yes then aim for a stable temp of constant 28-29*C. (for 10-12 weeks).

Keep us updated on the eggs.

they can breed at 9 months old if at the right size, etc.

Thanks, I don't intend to keep them in the box in the large viv but will they be ok for a couple of days? It does have a thermostat.

I improvised with a heated seedling propagator and thermostat, and used damp vermiculite as a substrate, half buryinng the eggs in it. Good luck Tipsy, keep us posted and I'm sure you'll find loads of useful info here :-)

Thanks all for the help and I'm sure I'll be asking 100 more questions over the next 12 weeks, so I'll apologise now!

So now my kiddies are fertile when do I need to remove the male? i.e. when will the one that's just laid be able to conceive after birth as I don't want this happening for another year as I believe its not good for their health?

Usually they only breed once a year in the spring after being cooled off over winter (decrease in food, temperature, daylight hours) and sometimes female lay a second clutch of eggs later in the year. BUT there are plenty of exceptions!
