I have aquired a corn snake and viv. The trouble Im having is when I try to touch him he rattles and to be honest I dont really want to be bit. He is around 4 or 5yrs and previous owner said he was handled a lot but i dont think that was true. He has just shed and is due to be fed today. Another thing I have only had him 3 days. Any advice please. The viv has a heat mat 2 hides and water at the cold end. What I have read the viv seems ok and its what he has been in all the time HELP please I cant wait to handle him.
Leave the snake for a week to settle in before interacting with it. just feed, change water, etc. The snake wil rattle it's tail & may try to strike at you but it's more fear & defense than aggression. you can try to leave an item of clothing in the viv so the snake gets used to your scent (I never have). You will have to just keep trying to convince the snake you're not a threat over time the snake should settle in more.
