Hey all-

I am at my wits end with my little viv, having found it impossible to maintain the correct temp of the heat mat. It is controlled with a regular habistat, but the themometer reads fluctuations of anything as low as 22c up all the way up to 32c.

Even when the temp reaches the correct levels and the stat switches off, it lets the temp get as low as 22-23 ish before it switches back on!

The thermometer, the mat and the stat are all high quality, but obviously something isnt right! Help!

where do you have the thermometer positioned? Is it on top of the substrate or on top of the heat mat?
And what substrate do you use?
Also where do you have the stat probe?
If the probe is on the heat mat and the thermometer is on the substrate, this could be a reason for the difference!
Also you may be using a substrate that loses heat very quickly, whilst the heat mat doesn't!

snake is on small beech chippings. The stat probe comes through the back of the viv and rests on the heat mat, right next to the thermometer probe.

i am having a similar problem im using fauns atm, my probe for stat is on faun floor directly above mat, heat mat is on the outside on poly with about half cm gap for air flow thermometer is in hide, think room temp has something to do with why it seems to take forever to switch back on, but both mine have been sitting at 24.5degrees c for a couple of days now, neither stats in both fauns have switched on yet.one faun has me corn in n other faun is empty till new snake arrives.
