I have dried moss in my snake cave.
Have yet to change it, but I've only ever very lightly dampened it with a spray of water once.

I replace mine whenever i do a full clean out, i also mix a bit of vermiculite through it as i think it stops it drying out so quickly and i'm rubbish at remembering to spray it- there is a sticky somwhere about the best way to store it to make it last longer and how to get your monies worth, i personally just keep the bag sealed and the last big bag has lasted 6 month for geckos humid hides, corns lay boxes and what i've got in the incubator, Not bad for a fiver! just don't be tempted to get the tiny packs from rep shops it'll cost a bomb garden centre all the way, and verm is only 99p a bag in Wilkinsons my local rep shop it's £6.99 only differance is the gecko on the packet.

This is spagnum moss

Good points - think it has some natural enzyms or something that have anti - bacterial properties so it doesn't go mouldy.
Bad points - if you let it dry out it dies and thats it - bin.

This is vermiculite

Good points - if it dries out you just soak it again and it re-hydrates.
Bad points - It can hold too much water and get quite heavy so not so good for on top of eggs whilst incubating.

Not had any go Mouldy but it does stink after a bit, also have had it stick and dry out over a snakes eye, got it off ok but don't like to think what damage it could have done if i hadn't spotted it. As i said we've played around with it and found mixing the 2 together the best for laying boxes and humid hides and verm under the eggs with moss on top for incubating eggs.
