Stop picking on my hoggie Lewy! He might have a little bit of venom in him, but at least I'll not die like if you lick your toads |

Hoggies are definatly sweet!! Mine is huffy and puffy but calms right down once picked up.
Just want to point out these bits from the link.
'The bite was a food response, not aggression. This snake has been a gentle captive for 8 years and has never attempted to bite.' 'After about 3-5 minutes the snake continued to chew' So this was a long bite and the snake was allowed to chew, there fore causing such a reaction.
Don't wanna be putting people off these awesome snakes |

Our Hoggie is like BluetongueDan's. A bit huffy and puffy if you creep up on it, but just a little wriggly worm once you've got him.
I did a lot of research on them before we got one and they are rear fanged. As part of there 'frightening you off' display they might pretend to bite you, but with a closed mouth.
The bite probably was from an hoggie, but it would think it would have to be initiated into the bite and the bloke must have been leaving it to do it's business because I'm sure it could have been taken off before it got to that stage.
It's not put me off anyway. I love my little Wilbur |

Not that big actually. They are smaller than corns fully grown, just fatter |

BluetongueDan have you had any problems getting your hoggie to eat?
Our little Wilbur ate the first week we got him, then has refused the last 3 weeks. We've done all the tricks including braining, confined feedy place, left over night in his viv etc, but he's just not bothered.
I'm a bit worried because he's only an hatchling so should be wolfing his dinners down.
I'm blaming Lewy's toads! I think he can smell them and being his natural prey in the wild, he's holding out for them instead of taking his pinkie |
