I have been converting the top of my rather large computer cabinet in a viv for mojo as he's getting a little large for his faun imo. Just thought I'd show you the progress so far.
This is it before I started minus the roller shutter part
Here I have added the runners and the bits they attach to, also test fitted a vent in the original hole that was in for plugs and wiring etc...
I was advised to have vents lower in the cool end and vice versa, so working around the original hole decide to have 4 vents, also helping circulation as its near the wall, not right against it. I have also silicone sealed all the joints with aquarium sealant
I used double sided sticky tape to added a background
I've ordered glass today which will be ready for wednesday, then just need to add all his bits and pieces and its home sweet home, I cant wait. |

That's all looking pretty smart there Mick. Converting existing furniture is definately the best way to go I reckon, providing the dimensions are suitable!
Well done mate. |

Cheers bud, I wish this had been a bit deeper (its 31"w x 12"d x 12"h), but he's still quite small so should be fine for a year or so, just wanted him to be able to straighten out if he wanted, if you know what I mean...

Looking good mick, I like that its only part of the desk and not the whole thing. Is the background very secure? Wouldnt want the snake to get near the tape. |

It's awfull,I think Mojo better come live with me!!!
Seriously great conversion that should last at least a couple of years, by then you'll have another young 'un to go in there anyway.

The small cavity at the top where the roller shutter is will also be a nice space to hide the stats and plugs as well..
Bonus. |

well... i was getting quotes between £30 - £60 for 4mm toughened glass with polished edges then I read that you can sand the edges smooth with fine wet n dry sandpaper, which I tried on an odd piece i had lying around and it worked (haven't tried on the glass for this as just got it today) The 2 i eventually got cost me a total of £12.08...BARGAIN!!! The place I got it from does its own toughening saving on the price prolly. I did LOTS of shopping around ;) HTH |
