why are exo terra heat wave heat mats for glass terrariums only?
surely a heat mat is a heat mat. I was told by the guy in the my local petshop that it would be fine in my wooden viv and not to worry, well you know me, mr worry wart lol

i think they need airflow, when you buy the heatwave mats you're even supplied with 4 feet to fit to the viv. they look different to 'normal' heatmats, i think the 'internals' are different. i've got one as a spare in case of emergencies but never used it.

i'm skeptical about the heatwave mats but it could be fear of the unknown.....?

you could always get a hatchling and use the heatwave for a glass faun? you know you want to.......... snake addict!

lol dont tempt me. I was wondering if the feet were only provided so that the glass tank would stand properly with the mat attached underneath, coz it would rock coz of the big plastic part of the mat where the wire connects.

Think i will try using it. As far as I can see it will heat up and when the temp gets to required level, the stat will turn it off as with any other mat...

Lad in shop, who does know his stuff, said to possibly use it with a ceramic tile over it, whats your ideas on that??

Just read the instuctions and it says

"Ensure the tank does not press down on the electrical cord. Use the provided spacers!"

so I guess I was right for once lol

doesn't yours have a red sticker on stating 'Spacers provided MUST be used for ventilation'?

no idea Hillzi, I plugged the heat mat in this afternoon and left it on all evening until just now and it doesn't even get that hot, i could still easy put my hand on it. Gonna use it, like i say, as long as i keep my probes on it the stat wont let the mat get hotter than it needs to be.
