Right here it goes. I`m building a viv at the moment and have to get some runners and glass, but once the runners are fitted how do you get the glass in. Whilst i am talking vivs, can you use ordinary bathroom silicone in the viv. Thanks |

NO!! aquarium silicone is safe but normal stuff ISN'T! with the glass runners the deeper runner goes at the top and the shallower one at the bottom then it's easy to get the glass in, providing it's the right size...................... |

when i made my stack (not the best a DIY) i found my measurments where mm out so was hard to get it in, but fortantly i opted for perspex instead of glass so it has some give in it. |

Hard to explain, but if you fit your runners then take a stiff piece of card or something, push that into the top (deepest) runner as far as it will go, then push the card against the front of the viv and mark where the top of the bottom runner comes to on the card, thats roughly the size you will need. you can cut the card where you marked it and see how it fits. Then you know if your template fits your glass should too.
Hope that helps |

Ok thanks all and by the way, how do you fix the runners. I have heard that you glue them is that right? |

I counter sunk the plastic and screwed mine on, then covered the top of the screws with some thick sticky tape to stop them catching the glass! Also on runner should be higher then the other! This one should go on top to allow you to lift the glass in!
Hope this helps

All mine are stuck on with no-nails - never has a plrobem even with the 6ft boa so cant see it being a problem with corns. |

knowing me i wont be trusting just the glue etc, will prolly pop a few panel pins in to be safe. Remember, if you use fish tank silicone, that stuff is strong enough to hold 4ft fish tank together when full, so it must be pretty strong.
(still gonna pin it tho lol) |

I glued mine on with contact adhesive (Evostick)
Apply glue to both surfaces, allow to dry for 15 mins so it doesn't feel tacky any more. Then bring both components together. You only get one chance with this stuff so make sure it's where you want it 1st time!

I did the same as Bud, and there is no chance of it coming off. |
