I think I'm about to get my first corn and so need a viv. Who do you reckon is the cheapest for your first set up? I've seen some cheap viv setups on line, most of which dont include a heatmat and only use a heat lamp (i think I'd prefer a mat).
The northampton reptile centre want £180 for a 3'x2'x2' set up with all the trimmings but does anyone reckon I could get it cheaper elsewhere?
Thanks in advance, any advice welcome |

a good website to go to is 888reptiles, as they wholesale and do good prices. I looked at them and wasgoing to buy from them but ended up buying from a shop near me that they retail to, as it was my first reptile of any kind and i wanted to make sure i knew exactly what i was buying. It is good prices though, with a 36"x15"x15" costing £77. It also hs setups for you to look at if you wanted. |

thanks Mick and muppet9976
their setup all seem to be heat bulb based rather than heat mats. Is there an advantage to heat bulbs? Which are cheaper to run?
Thanks in advance |

I use heatmats, I don't even notice it on my bill. Corn snakes don't really need bulb heat but it looks nice I guess. |

i havent looked at all at getting a heat lamp, as i always wanted heat mat for some unknown reason
I now though, want to get some sort of light as i cant atually see into my tank and therefore cant see my snake. If you wanted, you probarbly could phone them up and order it on the phone but replace the lamp with a mat and see if it is more/less expensive.
Hope that helps |

How much you spend depends on how good you want it to look. You could house it in a plastic tub with cardboard hides a mat and stat very cheaply, or a wooden viv with all exo-terra equipment and spend 250 quid. |

i have had my corn a yr now and i have spent around £300 pound on making my viv look good. i also have 2 corns in plastic fauns with toilet roll tubes and homemade hides which costs me £10 a month to look after. when i get space they will all have beech vivs. like matty said tho it depends on what money you have and mainly what space.
as long as it is suitable for the corn its does not matter xD |
