I was Givern a corn snake a few days ago, its just over 3 feet long possibly 4 (there bloomin hard to measure lol :). The previous owner said it fed it chicks as its main diet. So after waiting for the food to arrive (frozen) i fed my corn snake (its name is johnny cash). My question is, can it eat day old chicks, considering its length, to be honest they look a bit big. Chicks are not reccomended for feeding regularly. They are very fatty. Feed the snake on appropriatly sized mice, for that snake its most likly medium-large adult mice. |

probably medium mice, the food item shouldn't be more than 1.5 times the width of the snake at it's widest point. really want to get him off chicks asap, it's not good for them and boy do you know it when it comes out the other end!!!

Thanks josh, major help there, will order them now, he hasnt been fed for a while he'll be starving. Another quick question, is it safe leaving mice etc in the viv overnight after being defrosted, would there be any germs left over etc.
EDIT: yeh been reading that chicks arnt a good main diet, ive found what i think was a chicks foot in his poop the other day lol. Thanks for the welcome.

i think that if he eats it immidiately, then it is ok. If he doesnt take it, stand out of sight for a few mins and see if he was nervous about being watched. But unless he isnt taking any food at all, i dont think you should leave it overnight. |

you should have a hot end and a cold end ,plus a hide in both ends
i hope this helps out a bit later and welcome to the forum

In his hide place the themometer partly into the substrate and on the actual heatmat to get a more accurate reading of temp :) |
