It might be better to find an area away from where snakey can smell the hamsters.
They get a bit fiesty in the scent range of rodents.

Thats a good point... i'll see what i can do, if not do you think they will be ok at different ends of the room?

hopefully, but if you have the window open (mine can be open slightly but locked, so people cant get in), you want to try and put the hamsters away from the window r the breeze might carry their scent to the snake.

Could you move the hamsters to aother room?
