Hi, I have just finished reading my book, 'Corn snakes in captivity' and have frightened myself to bits! Been looking at the diseases and illness section, and it talks about mites and Ticks. Is there anything I can do to avoid the little beasties, apart from hygiene and good care? Sorry it's so basic a question, but has anyone had to deal with them before? |

Hygiene and good care is all that you can do really.. If you get any new things to put in the viv; then bake it/bleach if necessary.. If you get any new additions, quarantine them for a few weeks to make sure they don't have any mites, ticks or anything contagious

Oh Heck, I think I have just made my first big mistake. Got some cork/light wood types of hides when we got our corn. I just blew them off with a hot hairdryer as I didn't want to wet the wood. Should I panic now or wait a while? |

just chuck them in the oven @ about 110 degrees for a hour and that wil kill any nasties, also dont handle other peoples reps as they can be transfered through you. |

Your very unlikly to ever get ticks in your collection unles you buy a WC animal.
As for mites, I agree with the above. General hygiene and a month or 2 of quarantine for new arrivals. |
