I am in the same boat mate I'm getting a Habistat Mat Stat. You plug the stat into the mains, and plug your heat mat into the socket on the stat. Place the probe of the stat on the substrate inside the hide above the mat, then the stat will regulate the heat in there. I am also getting a exo terra digital thermometer with a probe, gonna put that probe in there as well as I here its more accurate to set the temp using thermometer than the stat.
I am new to this too but this seems to be the way its done. If I have any info wrong I am sure someone will be here to correct me soon lol good luck |

You're right Mick.
Though if you are using a faun with the mat on the outside, its easier to tape the probe directly to the mat (out side). |

and set the stat to the temperature the thermometer inside the viv/faun, disregard the dial on the stat itself (although it is a useful guide) just as an example: thermometer reads 25*C (too low), stat reads 30*C (spot on), turn the stat up a few degrees, allow plenty of time for the temperature to re-adjust then re-check the temp, thermometer reads 29*C (great), stat reads 33*C (IGNORE!!) |
