i bought a heat strip today and it is twice the power of my last heat mat but the temp of the tank is still the same, and it will not get the temperature up to what is needed. i realy need to know why and how to resolve it.

it is currently underneath my glass tank, should it be moved inside my tank or is that a bad idea?

thanks for any help.

is your thermostat turned up enough? is your substrate too thick over the mat and insulating the heat away from the snake/probe/thermometer? how are you measuring the temp, ie. with what sort of thermometer and where is it positioned?

can anyone advise me on what to get then, thermomiter and thermostat wise as i have only just got a new heat strip there is no need for that (hopefully) its 15 watts. i also have a 7 watt kicking about if thats any use? but i need new thermomiters and maybe a thermostats?

thanks very much...also i had my snake probed today and it seems a bit edgy, is it just because it doesnt know what the heck has happened to it (male btw).

You need a digital thermometer. I just got 3 from ebay they are cheap and they work well. Sorry i dont know how to put the link in but if you copy and paste below it will take you there.

Also you only want 1 inch maximem on the heat mat. The wattage on the heat mat wont make the temperature hotter. The higher the wattage the bigger the heat mat so it covers a wider area. It just heats more of the floor.

Oops the link did come out.

if you have not got a thermostat you need to get one asap as you could end up burning your snake, the best two brands are habistat and microclimate.please get one for your snakes sake
