trying to figure out this whole lighting thing. Exo terra recommends using a repti glo 2.0 with a 5.0 light tube though doesnt specify what repti species its best for. I know the 5.0 emits UVA which i believe snakes do not need. will it be harmful to the snake if used?

It wont harm the snakes but they dont need it. I have just been out looking at the exo terra stuff for my viv. Not getting a normal light but might get a nite glo lamp for when i do want some light in there plus for extra heat if i need it in the winter.

Yeah, you won't need a tube - a standard light will easily the job.
(Plus it'll most likely be cheaper ;p)
The tubes are mainly for beardies etc

the light controller units stop the light flickering. the exo terra has this build in. my current arcadia controller does too.
