Well as title suggests, fed Mr Storm with his second weaner, slightly smaller than the last one.
Ok normal tactic to defrost is leave in a mug of boiling hot water for a while untill it goes soft.
Now, I left it in a food bag for about 15 minutes, the legs and ears and tail were popped out, and the rest was squidy but the head was a little bit hard even after dunking it.
[:s] Not sure if it was defrosted but it smelt like a warm mouse.. and snakey wolfed it down in around 10 mins! So idk.
He's also in his shed aswell, I feed him in his shed he always takes.
His belly thats normally white, turned blue and scales are going greyer and his eyes are blue, but not fully cloudy.
what are signs to look for a fully defrosted mouse?
I left the pinkies and fluffs till the skin went from red-ish to fully whitey colour they go, but its hard with weaners as they have hair.
Cheers |

your water is too hot, just use warm water from the tap,20-30 mins in that should be fine or just get it out in the morning and let it defrost by it self |

Yeh, I've found that if you warm it up by water - There seems to be a bulge of air trapped in the mouse's stomach. I've never had a burst - But I just leave to defrost over a few hours :) |

I just leave mine out either over nihgt, or during the day. However I have found that if I put them on a radiator for a couple of hours it makes Monty strike feed whereas he normally just takes them if they've defrosted at room temp.
I think I read somewhere that you shouldn't put them in boiling water as it could cook the meat and that is really bad for the snake. |

I put mine in warm water from the tap and leave for about 10-15 minutes and they seem defrosted fully (these are only pinkies atm though). I've noticed the heads of the pinkie is still hard but I put this down to it being the skull. Is this not the reason? :S |

Allways just leave mine out to defrost on their own. However, once left them on top of the viv to defrost. Rizla was going mad. Guess he could smell his dinner. Won't be doing that again. |

Just soft warm and squishy on the whole mouse. The head can be harder, but that contains a large bone, so wont go as soft as the rest of the body. |

That would explain it then cheers Phil, the whole body was squidgy but the face and top of the head was harder,
as rodents can knaw through,, anything that explains the hardness in the face is probably muscle.
Now been popped out now so can't have been that bad |

How I tell my mice are thawed is by feeling the belly and making sure there is no hard lump in the middle which would indicate ice. |

Pffft, weak stomachs. I could eat jammy doughnuts while watching an autopsy. Yet strangely I can't go on a waltzer. |
