My little Crunchy Nut has just gone thorugh her 'blue-eye' before shedding, so in a day or 2, i expect a skin, then in about 2 weeks I'm expecting the first batch of eggs from her that I've had. Woo Hoo.
I'm gonna try to make/copy/steal some sort of care sheets, will probably end up asking Lewy if he minds me printing his out, and giving them to the new owners as well, informing them to come to this site if they have any other questions, or just for general banter. |

its normal for them to be very active before they lay, the female normal that laid a few days ago, for two days before laying she was turning her viv completly up side down going in and out of the nest box before she decided it was time and that the nest box was good enough. i had to remove her water bowl for those two days and give her limited access to it as she even tipped that. kehhlyr congrats keep us posted |

I've ended up with 2 nest boxes, because she didn't seem to like the first one, to big possibly?? anyone else ever had that? The first one was an old hamster cage bottom, with plastic mcdonalds tray mounted onto the top. That made a lovely BIG 'cave/burrow/nest', with only a small opening which was where the rotastak used to go in. She had a look in it, and spent a while mooching around, but was happier under it. So i then got an old lunch box, and I've cut a hole in the top of that, and put vermi in, and she LOVES that. What I done with both of them, was to place the last third of it onto a heatmat as well, so it can still get some heat because I've heard of some people having problems when the 'queen' sits on cold and damp vermi. It also keeps the humidity up quite well in there as well. May have accidently stumbled onto an even cheaper Incubator as well, the temperature is sitting at 83 degreees at the moment, with 90% humidity. |

I was actually a bit concerned that it may be too small, because of her size. Although I'm aware that they like small areas to sit in, It just seems to small for her to nest in, The last thing she used was about 12 inchs long, by 8 wide, by 3 tall. I'll keep an eye on her, mainly when she starts to lay, because that's when I'll find out if it is a bit small for her. |

im sure it will be fine they do say if its big enough for to corns to fit into then its a big enought tub. if she is a 1st time mum you will want to keep an eye on her anyway as she may decide on a really bad place to lay the eggs ie on the heat mat or in her water bowl. if she gets really restless remove the water bowl and maybe add another nest box so she has a choice. and ofcorse if you see her starting to lay or laying on the heat mat turn it of till shes done. |
