Hey all.
I've got whats possibly another newbie question here. My corn has a tendency to go into only her cold hide, even after feeding, which means she still has a lump even after 48 hours. I mean, she's never had problems with digesting her food, it just seems to take a lot longer than usual. I've checked everything I can think of, both hides are identical (exo terra medium hide outs), the hot end temps are 27-31*C, the cold end is 22-24*C.
Am I just being paranoid here or should I be worried?

one hide may be more appealing than the other, are they the same size? does one have direct light shining in? try swapping the hides over, or swapping which end of the viv you heat.
although the temps look fine the warm end might be a little too warm for her, you could try turning the stat down a degree or two.

Thanks for your reply Gingerpony =)
Both hides are exactly the same, because I know how a snake's urge to hide is greater than their urge to thermoregulate. But the direct light thing...something occurred to me, the hot end hide entrance can see the light from my computer monitor...since the viv is behind and to the side of me, but that might just be it, so I've turned the hide to the side to prevent that.
Thing is, it's a mat stat, so on average the temperature is somewhere between those two, but I'll turn it down a wee bit anyway.

Mine will usually got under his hot-side log straight after eating, but after 24 hours; he's often back in his cold side hide (One of the exo-terra snake caves; he really loves it in there)
Try adding a few more hides around, see if they get used after. Get a bit of bark, or a flowerpot etc ^^

At this stage, I can't really >.< She's still in her faunarium and there's no space, since I'm waiting for my student loan to come in before I can buy a finer meshed bulb guard for her viv...

my snake sometimes goes into his cold hide but then after a while he'll wander over to the warm one, usually when it's later in the evening :)

also are you using the dial thermometers? if so some of them can be quite unaaccurate if they are not working properly, its always best to have a digital thermometer and makesure your heat sources are being controlled by a thermostat. i know its expensive equipment but theres nothing better for your snake than THE BEST lol

Don't worry, I got both =)
I seem to have one of the only good local pet stores in the country and the guy made sure I bought a thermostat, just it's an on-off one and hence the temperature fluctuates a bit. Also, I do have one of those two-probe thermometres that tells you the temperatures at both ends ^^.
I spotted my snake out and about now, which means she's finished digesting and stuff, but that's been about four days since her last feed... >.<

sounds like you do have a good LRS
on/off stats are fine for corns as they're generally quite hardy and they cope fine with the minor temp fluctuations. my Dumerils boas are on a pulse stat which is a lot more accurate +/- 0.5*C and the Royal is on a dimmer now, another very accurate but more expensive bit of kit.
when you return her to her viv after a feed have you tried directing her into the warm hide so she gets the right idea?

Thing is, I've got a dimmer stat and a whole viv setup ready for her to move into, I just need to get a properly sized bulb guard for it before I can actually move her across.
I have tried directing her into her warm hide, and she'll normally make her way there, but at some point, she'll just return to the cold hide.
It's got me stumped why she does that, I mean, I don't think it's harming her in any way, It's just I can't figure it out.
The only other thing I can think of is that maybe she wants to see sunlight, since you can kinda see the window from the entrance to the cold hide. Or am I just grasping at straws now? ^^;
