ok so i went to one of my nearest reptile shops the other day, basically to get blake a new, bigger heat mat as i thought he was outgrowing the 6" by 11" and struggling to coil up on it. the owner told me that for a sub adult to adult sized corn, using a heat source from a bulb would be better, so i ended up buying a new 100watt bulb and a dimmer thermostat. and i got it all up and running now and it maintains temeperature alot better than my old thermostat which was just a basic temperature one that used to shut the heat source on and off ( and used to turn blakes viv into a disco set when i had the bulb plugged into it) but im using a dimmer thermostat now and bulb all the way now, i just turn the temperature down 10 degrees F at night time. one small concern i have tho - its probably nothing is that this thermostat makes a quiet humming/buzzing sound and i mean its a brand new thermostat and my old one didnt make that noise but that was a different type of thermostat altogether. lol |

Is the bulb normal or a red bulb? (nothing to do with the buzzing) Having a normal (white light) bulb on at night wont be plesant for the snake. How are you heating it at night? |

I have a dimmer stat on my beardies light, mine makes a humming as well i don't think its anything to worry about really, have you got a guard around your heat bulb? that would be my only worrie cause some times they like to coil around the lights, just a heads up incase. :) |
