not quiet sure what my ambiet air temp is at the moment but i have a sneeky feeling it may be a little cold in my new viv. i have a gradient of 30C to 21.5 at the moment. digital termos are placed in the base of the subtrates. being an mesh vented top i recon im loosing alot of ambient air temp. unfortunately i dont have a spare digital thermometer to check the over ambient temp. maybe ill buy one of thoses cheap strips temp gauges for now.

do you recon its worth investing in an spot light lamp holder like exo terras glow with maybe a heat glow lamp?

Ideally you want around 30-31oC on the warm side... i have a digital thermometer and i put 1 side inside the hide so i know how hot it is in there when hes in there. Ideally you want inside his hide or where he lies w/e about 30-31oC and cold side ive been told normal room temp is fine.. Thats what its been like with Noodle and ive had him about 6months now and he was a couple months old when i got him and it hasnt done any harm :) Hope this helped

Yea with Mesh tops its abit difficult since heat rises.... if you wanna bump the temp up get a heat bulb and see what happens then...

If your using a heat mat that wont affect the ambient temp any way,you would need a ceramic or a heat bulb(preferbly infrared) to heat the air

you could always try covering most of the mesh top, allowing a little for ventilation. a towel or newspaper should do the trick

Ummms, I think I'm missing something... I thought as long as substrate temp was 30-31 at the hot end, it didn't matter about the air temp. Reason I'm asking is I too have a mesh topped vivarium, thermometer at warm end which is pretty much constantly 30, I didn't realise overall temperature needed to be measured? Or am I getting mixed up O_O

i dont think it matters too much, but mystery likes to climb and remain on his branches for a long time, thought it might be nice to measure the ambient temp so hes always comfy wherever he is resting

Okay, cheers ari. :) I tend to only check the heat on the actual substrate, and more often than not he's in the cooler area. Now he's digesting his food he seems to be in the warm hide which I'm sure I read is normal?

yup sounds about right. occassional if hes spending too much time in the cool, i hear that it could be down to the warm area being too hot. but as u say if ur temps read well then keep them as is. You could also play with dropping the warm temp by a degree and see if he spends a little more time there.

Aye, as I was writing that I was panicing a bit thinking it might be cos its too warm but no, it's dead on 30 and I check it at least 4 times a day, morning, noon, afternoon and night, if it fluctuates its either in the 2 hours between I check or when I notice its to 28/29
