why would it matter if he was male? was he eaten by the female during mating ?

From what little I know of tarantulas, apparently most males only live 2-5 years (species dependant) whereas females can live for 15-20 years.

That's what i've dug up from the useles pit I call my memory anyway. Plus I could be wrong as not being a Tarantula keeper, i haven't done a great deal of research on them.

Tis about right. Male live a much shorter life span than females. As soon as they are sexually mature you need to start preparing for mating if you want to breed as thier life span is relatively short after maturity. Females however have been recorded living to a ripe old age

That tiny Brazilian White knee is just a baby.It will grow to be one of the bigger species of tarantula with a very impressive leg span.

Nope not lost one yet (fingers crossed)Some of the spiders are a little skittish but most are pretty calm tbh. The little white knee has threat displayed at me tho which is one of the funniest things i have ever seen where it is so small lol.

All in seperate lock down tubs. The only time they could get out is when i open the lids and i watch them like a hawk. I wouldn't want a bite from some of them tbh
