My name is Lauren and I got my first corn snake today.
He is a lovely little creature, very friendly from what I have seen so far.
I used to have a tortoise so I know a few things about caring for reptiles in general but I was wondering whether it was better to have a heat map or a lamp or both. And what are the ideal temperatures for the warm and cool sides of the vivaruim?
Thanks. |

hi Lauren and welcome! I use a heatmat for my corn, it seems to be the preference. If you have a look at the care sheet on this site you will get loads of useful info, its a great forum and everyone here is really friendly! Su |

Hiya, and welcome to the forum.
As Susan says, heatmat with stat is the ideal one. Warm end being 28-30c, cool end being around the 20c mark. But the cool end can vary more due to ambient room temps. |

Hello, welcome to the mad house. I use a bit of both but thats just me being fussy - a heat mat does all you need but i like to have a light on during the day to see my babies. |

Thank you for all the advice and the kind welcomes .
He seems to be very comfortable now but I think I'll need to get him a hide as he keeps crawling under his water bowl. |

Yes, 2 hides are vital for happy corns, one in the warm end and one in the cold end. They absolutely love hiding. But if you can't afford two hides straight away- toilet roll tubes and plant pots are cheap but useful |
