Hi - I got my first snake, Maisie, yesterday and I'm chuffed to bits with her. She took a pinkie today, no on strike, but I warmed it and left it beside her. She quickly manouevred round and chomped it down. As she's small she's in a box with kitchen paper and as I went to put the lid back on I rustled the paper and she rattled her tail at me! My son nearly died! Is this normal? I'm guessing she just got a fright.

Yes its normal, scared Corns can rattle their tail. As they get used to their surrounding and you they will most likely stop.

Mine still do that now. Was she still taking the feed down?

Mine do it if i go near them while they're eating.

Speaking of it actually; my male did it last night when i put my hand gently on his head while i moved the log, quickly moved back when i'd finish he started hissing!

I'm sure though if it persists its a "get the hell away from me" rattle.

Thanks guys - she had just finished feeding so I'm pretty sure it was a frightened response - new surroundings, new feeder etc. She's been fine since, and quite active, so I'm not nervous about her. Thanks for the replies though - this is a great forum!
