Has anyone ever used this for securing a heat mat to the bottom of a viv? i thought this will be good for insulation. Should i cover the heat mat completely or just around the edges? thanks |

if you mean the foil tape used for joining insulation around pipes it is supposed to reflect heat back so i wouldn't cover the whole mat its not very strong either good chance it may tear and make a mess

What i had in mind was to stick the heat mat to the bottom of my viv and then cover the heat mat with the tape it hold the heat in better. |

tape is fine on the out side and foil tape would help to reflect the heat back up,think twice about ever uting tape inside though as we hear so many bad stories involving tape. |

when i had a plastic vaunarium i used to put a peice of cardboard wraped in foil to raise the mat up close to it,so it's basicly the same princable just more permament. |

I've used clear duct tape on mine. I inspect it every change of substrate to make sure its not coming loose and if it is I change it, although my last lot lasted 5 years. |

ah i see what you mean now, mat being on the underside of the bottom, the tape reflects radiant heat not sure if it would help if its touching the source you may find the aluminium conducts heat quite well polystyrene sheet insulates nicely. |
