Hi all, since getting a brand new max - min thermometer i can now see the combination of ministat 100 and a micro-climate heatmat 12watt i think have noticed now that i have a temperature swing of 23.5 to 28.5 deg.c any ideas if this is normal for the controller or should i be expecting more to be honest i was a little disappointed.

With on/off stats they do take a while to kick back in when they shut off,so they will let the temp drop a bit before they come back on,hth

mines the same,i dont think it's much to worry about but if your still concerned you could get a pulse prop stat or go for a ceramic or infra red on a dimmer stat.

Marc, you really should be using a stat..If your not hapy with a mat stat use a pulse. They are more accurate. Without one theres nothing to stop your mat burning through itself.

You've basically got 26C +/- 2C, I'd knock it up a couple of degrees so you range from about 26 to 30.

Yes this is common with on/off stats, but far better than no stat at all, which has the potential to kill. If you would like a more accurate range a Pulse Proportional stat is very accurate and cost ~£30.

I think the Microclimate Dimmers are ok with heatmats, I know that the Habistat version need a minimum load of 40W so are no good for mats.

I had a look in a lps and the box said suitable for all heat sources with no mention of minimum power so promptly went home and ordered online :)
