Hi

We bought a Corn Snake for our son on 17 January (it was about 3 months old) and it fed really well up to about 3 weeks ago - 1 pinky every 4-5 days. It has a heat mat which does seem to mean the tank goes a little under what it should be during the night.

Do you think it might be about to shed? It is in his hide most of the time at the moment and we are a little worried about it?

Hi and welcome,if he is going into shed you will notice his eye turn blue and his skin will dull.He could be shedding as they will hide away during this time, also with the change in season alot of snakes go of heir food.Just keep an eye on him.has he shed for you before and when?

Hi Lee

No, he has not shed before - we have only had him since January.

Do you think the temperature dropping might have anything to do with it?

Do you have a thermometer in your viv?

If your snake can't find somewhere hot enough for it to raise its body temperature enough to digest a meal, it will be reluctant to feed.

What temps do you have in the hot and cool ends of your setup?

We do have a thermometer - it checks the whole viv not just one end. It seems to vary between 76F and 89F depending ont ime of day and ambient temperature in the house. I am wondering whether the heat mat is not actually working as it should?
