hi, i noticed earlier when picking up my snake that it was making little popping noises with its mouth. i thought it may be sneezing or something? anyone else experienced this? |

if he's due to shed it could be loose skin rattling in his nostrils, otherwise it could be the start of a minor RI, what are your temps like? |

thanks for the fast reply. well i have noticed his eyes are looking a bit dull compared to when i first got him, so he may be due for a shed? not sure.
my temps are currently.. warm side: 31*C cool side: 18*C.
the cool side does warm up during the day. i have trouble keeping it at a decent temp at night cause my house gets quite cold :\ |

Min for the cool end I would say is 18*C, for the hot end about 26*C, some say slightly warmer.
I run my viv at 19*C cool end, 28*C warm end. The ambient temp of the room is about 21*C. |

ahhh right okay :) i guess if the cool side does get slightly too cold he'll just wander into the warm side anyway. i'll keep an eye on him and let you all know if he does shed and how it went. if he's in shed when he's due a feed, do i still feed him? |

You could feed him, but some snakes wont eat while they are in shed. I don't offer mine food when in shed. |

hmm still kind of worried about him. i just put a pinkie in his faun, and i could hear the snake do the little "pft" noises with his mouth. i picked him up earlier and his eyes have gone back to black instead of the greyish colour so i think shed is near, BUT i did notice it was everytime he poked his tongue out he made the popping noise. hmm. what do you think now? also, when i put him back into the tank his head rubbed against the side and it left a wet mark??? though i didnt notice any bubbles or anything on his mouth when i picked him up :\ ugh! |

up his temps a couple of degrees, if it's possible with your set-up try to get the heatmat covering 2/3rds of the viv floor space (usually a half to a third of the floor space) and move his cool hide into where it's heated to encourage him to stay warm. this effectively brings on an artificial fever - like when we have a cold or (man!) flu - this helps his immune system fight it off. you could also raise the humidity slightly with a damp hide, particularly useful if he is due a shed soon. |

okay i've moved his cool hide towards the middle of the faun instead of right on the end and im just about to try and move the mat around a bit to try keep him warm. such a bloody worry!! :(
i did manage to find online that some guy has had the same problem as this before and the little noises went after his snake had shed so fingers crossed eh! :) thanks for your help btw! |

the mystery noise could be resolved soon then hopefully! once he's shed if you have put a damp hide in it's probably best removed until next shed, excess humidity can cause RI's in corns although increasing it slightly can also help ease symptoms if they have got an RI. |

:) the noise seems to have stopped!! thank god for that. i think i'm going to have to put the snake in a warm bath later, i think he has a tiny bit of skin left on the tip of his tail. im real proud of him though! he did well, pretty much a complete shed. i'll post a pic soon! |

cool, take off about 10% for an estimated length of the snake (the shed skin stretchs as it's rolled off) you could try just gently rubbing his tail with a damp flannel/cloth to see if that works, or a bath is good exercise too! water about the same depth as the snake's body, about 30*C (same temp as the warm end of the viv) for 10 mins or so, make sure you block any escape routes like overflows though |
