Just kiddin about the above but it's my first post and it feels a bit odd ( rather like how an AA meeting is portrayed on tv). I got my first corn just before Christmas and I'm delighted with how things are going, although I'd have been knackered without the tips/help, I've picked up from this forum (many thanks). I have to admit, it was a bit of an impulse thing but I think he/she's great. The pet shop give me very little info really and while I can ring them whenever I need a quick answer, I think they should have 'vetted' me more (making me worry that other customers could buy them with ease and not be 'good parents'. He's eating and slleping well and tries his utmost to avoid going back into his little viv after he's had his 10 minutes or so of freedom. He's crapped and musked on me (very pleasant the first time) but seems more reluctant now and just seems to enjoy his playtime. My biggest fear is the speed at which he can move and I'm worried that he gets away into some nook in the room in which he's kept and I can't get him back (just have to really careful I guess). It would be great to get responses from some of you guys just incase I need to find something out (and have someone to bounce things off). Anyway, chuffed I bought one, he's a little beauty. P.s. when the summer comes, can they be taken out into the garden or do they move really quick outdoors and try and escape. Thanks again
Mark

Hi buba.
I'm hopeless on these things but have seen numerous posts with really useful info so I thought I'd introduce myself (very poorly), meet some people who like snakes and have a place to go should I have any questions. I'm assuming you have a snake. Is it still a baby or fully grown/getting there?
thanks for saying hi. |

Hi Lee, nice to meet you.
Can you tell me if you can let the snakes 'play' in the back garden. Do they move really quickly and am I unlikely to get it back if I let him into the grass (very short obviously), in the summer.
Hopefully you can offer some advice as I can see your have a corn and a couple of other types of snake.
Cheers |

Hi and welcome
In regards to 'garden' play, it is risky.
Aside from the risk of escape, there is also the risk of snakie catching something from the grass or whatever else he plays in.
However, I don't want that to put you off comepletely, it's a risk, that's all. How much of the risk you want to take?? that's the hard part. |

Thanks Kehhlyr, grateful for the advice. Never thought of the risk of the snake catching something (virus wise).
I'd kick myself if he escaped or died from a virus or something. Looks like it's a life in viv. I wonder: would they choose a life without the threat of predation in exchange for freedom but with all the risks it brings. I know which one I'd choose; life in a cage with someone waiting on me hand and mouth. |

Hi and welcome Mark.
If I were you I would wait until the snake is a few feet long before taking it outside, it will be easier to handle and will also be more relaxed with you. Snakes can catch something (cant remember what its called) from cat wee, so if you get cats in your garden I wouldnt put in on the grass. |

Tizzy, thanks for letting me know about the photo's. I'm rubbish at anything like that but once I've taken some, I'll do my best to post them (hopefully someone can tell me what I've got! - it looks very much like Kerry's Casper but a redder variation).
Buba, 'semtex' that's brilliant, explosive little character is he (sos). |
